Brett's Super Why Costume

This is what it is so far. Tonight we have to make the question mark pen & get some different pants. I should shorten the cape too, it's really too long. If you don't know who Super Why is, he is one of the Super Readers & has the power to read. ☺ The Super Readers find answers in books. I love these pictures though so have to share them. Our trick or treating is tomorrow night. We usually let him go down our street, maybe a little farther this year.

Brett Today

He's home from school and we've been enjoying it very much. I've forgotten how much fun it is to have him here! I like to get pictures of the little moments in his day & I don't get the opportunity so often anymore. Yesterday he napped for over 2 hours. Today he was ready to lay down again. He has said several times that he misses his naps. We've had some later nights though too. Last night he was a big help in getting ready for mtg. He wanted to vacuum so I let him expecting to go back over it when he was done. When he finished, I decided I didn't need to. He hauled all the toys out of the living room & put them in the spare room too. Since Damon's been gone, he's been sleeping with me. He sleeps so soundly & doesn't move around so I don't even know he's there. I'm pretty sure he's grown in the last month, he's such a big kid now.

Tuesday

  • Damon's gone to NY & Quebec this week. I heard from him this morning & he's super tired. Yesterday he had to hang out with the boss at work until 6:30 pm so that made for a long day after getting up at 3 a.m. & traveling and not having much to do while he waited.
  • Our water heater is not working. Damon tried to light the pilot light without luck & I tried again yesterday afternoon. I don't feel comfortable messing with it and it shouldn't be that hard. I called service yesterday but they can't be here until this afternoon. I won't complain (well I won't promise) about convention showers being cold because it was much colder here!
  • Brett's conference went well last night. He knows all his colors, numbers, shapes, letters & their sounds. He gets along well with everyone in class & his teacher said he's "happy go lucky". He does well on his work and keeps on task. In January there's a meeting for parents where they tell about how help your child learn to read. Then they start sending home books nightly to practice. He will soon be reading!
  • I'm going to attempt to make a Super Why costume for Brett. I probably should have done it before now but since I could care less about Halloween, I've put it off. Damon wanted to buy him the costume but it's sold out in many places & besides it's too expensive for a not so cute costume. Brett would be glad to just wear a cape & his Spiderman gloves but I think it will be fun to make something. We'll see, maybe we'll go with the cape & gloves and add a mask!
  • I'm doing a Halloween party for the day care kids. Just simple things like a couple games, pizza for lunch, carve a pumpkin, eat the cookies we make on Thursday. One of the parents asked if there was anything he could bring. So I said ok, we need a pumpkin. Another mom called & asked if she could come & spend time with us and she would bring the pizza for lunch. Wow, I've never had such great dcparents!
  • Sunday we stopped to see Grandma on our way home from Mom & Dad's. It was great to see her and it feels so right for her to be there. She's doing so well and we've really missed her!

The Cutest T Rex I've Ever Seen

More 6 Month Pages

Baby Page 6 Months

I've decided I better start working on some of Brett's baby pictures for his scrapbook. These pictures are not some that stand out as favorites to me, but after looking through the folder, I wanted to make a page with them. I'm not sure I love this page either, but I like it well enough to keep. He truly was a beautiful baby!

My Amybee bag & apron

They came today! Exciting! I've wished several times recently that I had an apron & I know I'll use my bag especially when we go away on car trips. I always have these odds & ends to take along in the car that I don't want packed with my other things so it will be good for that. Both are very pretty & nicely made. Thanks Amy! Here's her blog: http://www.byamybee.blogspot.com/

I'm such a mean mom

I go out & shop at a nice store & buy my child a cute winter hat. He very much dislikes it. Well, I think he's coming around & getting used to the idea (after I hugged him & said "you know Mommy wouldn't buy you anything that wasn't cool") but yes, he is going to wear it. There's a matching scarf I might have to get. Damon nodded when I showed it to him last night. Today he said "looks like Pippi Longstocking". Great. Too bad, I think it's cute! LOL Now I guess I better find a red and/or blue winter coat. The one I wanted at Lands End is sold out already in his size. I might have to get the more expensive one. Isn't that always my luck? I'm hoping his red boots still fit him from last year.

Kittens

This morning my dcgirls brought their kitties to show us. They're so cute! Their names are Luke & Chloe. Brett took Chloe & went down the hall like he wanted her all to himself. I heard him say "Hi, my name is Brett." He would do so great with a pet!

Saturday with K & M

Today Keith & Maggie came down for the day. We went to a few garage sales (I found an easel with chalk/dry erase boards for day care that I've been needing) a little shopping at Old Navy/TJ Maxx/Best Buy, had lunch out & hung around the house. Keith & Damon threw the baseball to Brett to hit, started the new snow blower & looked at the coolant in Damon's Camaro. Later we went to Home Depot-I wanted to look at tile for my bathroom & the guys got a replacement rod to put in the climber slide that the kids can't remove & hit each other with...! Keith made paper airplanes for Brett & Brett snuggled with Maggie on the couch for a little bit before supper. We had a pizza before they left. We had a very relaxing day. Thanks for coming guys!

Apples, football & homecoming

Brett's going to the homecoming parade today. I didn't see a permission slip or anything but I hear that's what they're doing? He's looking forward to it & that's why he's wearing his Harmony Rocky the Redhawk shirt today. (Damon & I have a shirt like that too so we'll try to get a picture tonight. ☺) His class is also making applesauce and having it for snack today. Tonight we're going to take Brett to the football game. It's going to be crowded & freezing but we'll give it a try. We can always go home early! That's my vote, go for a while & come home before it's over! Brett's a little sports fanatic already so he's excited. Brett's doing very well in school. He's learning to sound out his letters and putting together words. He's constantly writing & drawing. Very interested in dinosaurs, paper airplanes and his shoes. He's sure it's the shoes that make you fast!

Beautiful fall days

This is the kind of kid to have

One that does chores! LOL We'll see how long it lasts. Brett's earning $5/wk for doing little jobs. (I can write off paying my child to do jobs for day care up to a certain amount each year plus he can learn about money.) Normally it's just emptying the trash cans, picking up nap mats and taking the day care towel basket to the laundry room. He has other jobs he's expected to do without pay - like cleaning his room, taking care of his laundry basket, and emptying silverware from the dishwasher. He was interested in running the vacuum so I let him. He did a good job too. He has quite the little responsibilities now that he's in school. He has homework -show & tell items, games & activities (that we do with him) to reinforce what they're learning & stories to read with book reports (drawing a picture of his favorite scene from the book) plus reading 20 books/month and reading through the alphabet. I'm combining all three reading activities or we'd never get done.

Our Weekend

Pictures from Damon's annual fall cruise (Camaros & Firebirds) on Saturday

Dinner out with Jon & Shanda Saturday night at The Metropolitan

The sidewalk is finished
Our tree started turning colors
Brett & I dog-sitted Spirit (Jon & Shanda's dog) on Saturday. She loved riding in the truck on Brett's lap! (He loved it too!)
Damon's birthday cake. The birthday boy was too tired to get his picture taken with it. We didn't even sing. : (
I spent Saturday doing errands & making food. Damon's cake, dinner for Sunday, bars to take to the funeral on Sunday. Plus readied the house for a showing we ended up not having......We had a very full but special weekend.

Brett's "Recipe"

I wouldn't suggest trying this at home, it's probably gross.
  1. Strawberry jam (good amount to cover the bottom of the bowl)
  2. Cool Whip next
  3. Then marachino cherries on top (all that's left in the jar, however many there are)
This is what Brett decided to do tonight after school. (Well first he ate some ham lunchmeat.) I was talking with parents & sending kids home for the day. I knew something was happening in the kitchen but I wasn't too concerned. Ah, whatever, it's Friday! Yes, he ate it ALL. What a bad mom I must be! LOL We have no dessert in the house & I guess this is what he thought looked good.

Day Care - Fire Safety Books

This was our activity today. It was fun! Included in the books:
  • award/what I learned
  • fire safety tips & pictures from all the kids
  • children & fire safety information
  • fire safety activities to complete at home
  • What keeps a firefighter safe page
  • Clifford knows fire safety! Stop, Drop, Roll activity
  • "That's safe! That's not!" worksheet
  • Fire truck coloring page
  • picture of fire/sign for fire
  • Clifford Magazine fire safety
  • matching numbers to fire trucks worksheet
  • fire painting
  • fire related words/pictures

We did this all today. Crammed a lot in but it wasn't too rushed. The kids like to be busy. Note to self: start earlier next year, especially if you have more than 5 kids present! Nah, nothing like the last minute. I didn't even have the idea until it all came together..... It turned out really cute so I think Brett will need to make one tonight
