Kitchen Decor
This is an awkward space to decorate since we put up the decorative trim but I *like* it. It took a while to find the right things but it finally all came together.
My mom made the window treatment (years ago already). I gave her the design & measurements and she put it all together. We're a good team!

A Little Change
This frame hasn't matched the shelf now for a long time and I finally got around to painting it. This is a very old mirror. The glass is very thick & heavy. I bought it from a friend when she brought to our garage sale to sell. I love it here (the shelf was from Goodwill).

Friday, May 28
I had the day off today so I got to pick Brett up from school. Normally he carpools with another family. It's fun to be able to go! Since it's hot (he insisted on wearing his Harmony shirt for Harmony colors day even though it's long sleeved!) and a Friday afternoon, I took him for a treat. I was thinking more like a 59 cent (I don't know what they cost, we never buy them?!) ice cream cone from McD's but I got talked into a Culver's root beer float instead, which is why Stormy also got a treat (see the post below). 9 days of school left!

Couch Kitty
Brett was playing with Stormy and stuck him between the couch cushions. He looks rather annoyed but he laid here for quite a while like this! Funny cat!

Mommy Moments
Brett at the garage sale last weekend
Tuesday at 2:30 a.m. I suddenly awoke & heard Brett whining. He rarely wakes up in the night (he did enough in the first 18 months!) so it's amazing to me I still wake up immediately when I hear him. He had a bad dream and was afraid. Apparently it was Halloween in his dream and Dad left him on the steps and went to the car without him. (I didn't tell Daddy, I'm sure he will be sad to hear this!) Somehow this was very scary in itself and in ways I'm sure he couldn't explain. It's not very often there's moments like this anymore where he needs me like this. I was thrilled, even at 2:30 a.m. I laid in his bed with him and Stormy snuggled with us too.
This morning when we were talking Brett asked me "how do you get to be an aunt or an uncle?" Again it hit me hard that he probably won't ever be an uncle. I suppose he will one day through marriage. He said "I'll be a grandpa someday though!"

Wednesday (is tomorrow)
I put this this sign on the front door to remind parents that day care is closed on Friday & Monday. Two parents forgot about Friday {even after I gave them a list of all my days off for the year and a monthly calendar} but the holiday weekend is sneaking up fast. Brett saw it today and added "Wednesday". He has a field trip to a farm tomorrow and he really wants me to come. I really think he just wants me to come because I can take him home early if I do. If I hadn't already scheduled to be off on Friday I would have gone! School doesn't give much notice for field trips. I *am* going on one next year for sure! {Going to help out with a group of kids doesn't sound like a day off at all though.}

Terribly Cute
While Stormy was sleeping, Brett tucked little Bambi in his paws. Stormy continued to sleep holding on to him. So cute! I think he likes snuggling with something.

See the ghost?
It's so funny what kids see! Three day care kids were sitting on the bench looking at comic books in my bedroom enjoying the sun coming in this morning & they "saw a ghost".

Stormy Sleeps Some More
After Brett saw the picture of Stormy sleeping with his ducky, Brett set up these two pictures. Stormy is so impressed!

Samba
I should have added more about our experience at Samba. It's such a neat place, great atmosphere. Here's a picture & history of the building.
The building says Samba on the front in red, those plants aren't there & there's a gate & fence around it. Very pretty except for the construction across the street. It's not such a nice view from that balcony. Lots of people around.
We were seated on the upper level. There's maybe 20 tables up there and a bar (not that people sit at - waiters served from there- & it was clean/attractive area). Then there's another area that steps up from there with more tables - maybe for groups? There was a large group seated up there.
We took our plates down to the salad bar. Everything on it is cold. Which is fine but different. Like cold steamed asparagus. It's good! It's like fresh peas. Brett wouldn't eat his - he said it was "wet". Feta pasta salad (I think mine tastes better), curry chicken salad (I tried it but I don't care for curry), several kinds of olives, Spanish cheese (yum!), goat cheese, lettuces with several kinds of dressing - I had the sundried tomato and it was very good. There were English cucumbers, grilled (cold) zucchini, nuts and lots more. Brett ate some nuts, orange garnishes off the cheese tray!! (someone may as well) and not much else....
At the table we were also given a basket of bread - little Parmesan biscuits like popovers. Really yummy!
Then we got mashed potatoes (there's also black beans & some other stuff) to go with the 2nd course, meat. You turn over this wooden thing that has green on one end & red on the other.
Then these guys, gauchos, come around with different kinds of meat. They cut off a piece & you grab it with your tongs to put on your plate. Brett ate his whole meal with his tongs. : ) He wasn't the only child there. We tried most everything except lamb, again we weren't offered it but we didn't ask our waiter to send them over either. The meat all is excellent, especially the beef. It has amazing flavor. Brett got his money's worth there! : ) They also served "grilled" pineapple. I don't think there's anything grilled about it. It just tastes like pineapple sprinkled with cinnamon & it's cold, but it's yummy of course.
Apparently there's also seafood available but we were never offered it.
It's not an inexpensive place but it was a great experience. We are glad we went with Brett. Excellent service from our waiter. We would go again. We had a lot of food and it was quality food, not like everywhere else you go out to eat. Really fun!

Our Weekend
We had such a nice weekend!
Friday night: dinner at Samba, a Brazilian Grill in Madison. Walked around State St. & found these pretty cupcakes.

Brett had a friend over & first friend to sleep over. She came to day care for 2.5 years? nearly 50 hrs/wk. They play great together.
Had our first fire of the season
& made Smores of course
We felt rather unmotivated and didn't accomplish a lot, but we sure enjoyed it!
*don't ask me what's up with the formatting on this post. I have no clue & I've spent too much time on it already!

Saturday: Brett played his last two soccer games.I bought some flowers (and did some creative "planting"). I wasn't feeling well & napped on Saturday afternoon. Damon trimmed & mowed.
