Rain Drops & Umbrellas {Drop, Then Blot}

Today we read Rain Drop Plop! and then made umbrella art. First we used droppers and liquid watercolors to drop colorful raindrops on our umbrellas {shapes cut on the Silhouette}. The watercolors pool on the cardstock, but it creates a great opportunity to blot it up with coffee filters. Later after the filters dried, we cut raindrop shapes out of them for our page.

{Yes, we’re also saving our paper towels and reusing them for painting projects! I don’t recall where I read recently about a preschool making a collage or a wall hanging project with their paint soaked paper towels, but I loved that idea. Reusing and creating art!}umbrellas3
Our beautiful springy pastel umbrellas and raindrops!umbrellasThis little guy wanted me to fill the dropper for him. I would fill it for him and he figured out how to squeeze the paint out. Then he would give it back saying “More, more!”

The other 2-year old was doing this saying “Upside down, upside down, upside down….”

Raindrop, Plop!
We have this great story on CD. Sometimes is nice to listen to someone else read the story!

  1. Very pretty project. I like that there is some fine motor along with the art.

  3. I love art that includes a pipet. So much fun for the kids to squeeze and drip, developing those fine motor skills. I also liked how you linked your project with a story. Thank you for sharing on It's Playtime!

  4. Cute! Great fine motor. My kiddos enjoy anything using eyedroppers. I've done a similar project but not this exactly. Looks like it would be a great scissors/fine motor activity for our "April showers bring May flowers theme" at the end of the month. How do you like those eyedroppers? I always hesitate to buy them because they look like they'd be hard to clean. :-)

  5. I happen to think that the paper towels I use to clean up after a water color activity is usually prettier than the project itself :)

  9. These are lovely! Such a good idea to decorate the umbrellas with raindrops. It would be great if you'd like to add this to our Spring Carnival. :)
