Beauty of Nature

There’s nothing like it!

I discovered our hydrangea shrubs on the side of the house are gorgeous right now! I love that these plants change constantly yet are always beautiful, whatever the season. There’s a good lesson in that.

These are some kind of hydrangeas, not what we thought they were, but they grew fast & they are huge. 3/4 the height of the peak of our house!

They’re perfect really, green & flowering, then berries in the spring and fall, and gorgeous colors in the fall. These pictures are all from the same shrub.shrubs

October Scrapbook Pages

I fit in a little scrapbooking over the weekend. I didn’t get too far but I enjoyed working on a couple pages anyway. I kept them very simple, nothing fancy. These page are made with Creative Memories Storybook Creator.

A couple pages from the last football game on Saturday. Tie game & Brett made a few tackles.

Picking Green Tomatoes

We had lots of tomatoes in the garden that are still green. They just aren’t going to ripen there so I had the boys help pick them. Fun!  Next I think I will have them help me clean the dead plants out of the garden. While we’re doing that, we’ll look for seeds.

We also had a few potatoes, most of them very small, but it sure was fun to dig them up!digging up potatoesStacy

Painting with Sticks

We love painting outdoors on our new easel ($2 at a garage sale!)

Yesterday we tried painting with sticks. Like a brush but yet, not like a brush. This is process art – art that is created while a child is learning in the process. The emphasis is on the learning taking place.

Painting with a stick, requires trying to turn the stick and applying the paint in a different way than with a brush. It creates a different kind of line and it’s very interesting. Painting with sticks causes the child to try different ways of applying it, encouraging creative thinking and problem solving.

I especially love the red and gold painting as the two that worked on it, took quite a bit of time and really explored painting with a stick.

Name Paintings | Preschool Basics

Such a simple activity we haven’t done before – painting names with watercolors. I originally saw this idea on Hello Bee. I love how simple it is and yet, meaningful as each child learns the letters of their name. The font is Arialic and can be downloaded for free here.name collageStacy
